5 Minutes With Bridal Designer Daalarna Couture

The designs of Daalarna Couture are synonymous with femininity, think undulating tulles and voluminous lace sleeves, from fitted to the princess silhouette. With an emphasis on timeless elegance, Daalarna Couture creates unique wedding gowns for the modern bride. Designed and produced in Budapest, from the finest fabrications, each collection is sure to impress the most discerning bride. We took a moment with Daalarna Couture to find out a little about what you can expect from their 2020 collection debut this October at New York Bridal Market.

What was the inspiration behind your 2020 collection that you will be showing at One Fine Day Bridal Market?

“In the past, a wedding or casual dress used to accompany its owner for the rest of her life. Therefore, women made smarter choices regarding shapes, tailoring, or colours. I love the way they formed the dresses with logic and spirit by respecting the fabrics and creating minimal wastage. While they tailored the dresses, they never forgot about the fact that it had to last at least a lifetime and might need some adjustments as it was not rare that later on, the next generation inherited them. In a modern sense, these amazing dresses were real basics and are the eternal symbols of a more sustainable society.”

Who is the collection aimed at and what is distinguishable about this particular bride?

“With the new FOLK collection, Daalarna designer, Anita Benes, not only aims to bring back these unique folk designs into the public eye, but emphasises more conscious choices for the younger generation.”

What are the key pieces from your 2020 collection that are ‘must haves’ for every buyer?

“So hard to choose! But definitely our Folk collection pieces with puff sleeves and midi skirts made with layered and pulled techniques, geometric and floral motifs, as well as lace frills and pearl decorations – these romantic designs make each bridal gown stand out. Besides the well-known bridal fabrics (lace, tulle, organza), there are some new authentic and unique additions like cotton, linen, and cotton lace.”

How do you choose the perfect boutiques to carry your pieces and what is important to your brand in developing new partnerships with buyers/boutiques?

“We usually choose our retail partners based on boutique style and location. We find that our line does best in boutiques that offer at least a few alike style indy designers as they attract the same types of brides and complement their selections.  We offer exclusivity to our partners so it’s also important for us to be in a geographical area where exclusivity can be granted and protected.”

Tell us a quirk about your business, what makes you unique/something you are proud of?

“All of our gowns are hand-made in our Budapest atelier and go through a high level quality check by the designer and her close team. We don’t outsource to other countries. Quality, and sustainability is the forefront of our line.”

Describe your overall brand aesthetic in 3 words.

 “Sophisticated, feminine, sensual.”

What is the best piece of small business advice you’ve received and often find yourself sharing with relevant businesses?

“When it comes to quality never settle for less. Many of my dreams have come true, but it is a greater success if we create value with my team.”

What can we expect in the coming months / next for the brand?Any exciting projects or collaborations?

“We are very excited to introduce our curvy line at market. It has been super successful in Europe and we are so thrilled to bring it to our lovely brides all over the world this year! We believe women of all sizes and shapes should be able to wear the gown of their dreams and feel feminine and sexy at the same time. Can’t wait to show off our gorgeous styles at market!”
